Honda's ZR-V arrives in India as a Rs 48 lakh CBU import from Japan, with a 2.0-litre strong hybrid, 184hp, 22.8kpl and 8 airbags.

Honda Cars India has launched the ZR-V in the country at Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom), ending a long wait for the hybrid SUV. The model reaches India in a single, fully equipped variant and is imported as a completely built unit (CBU) from Japan.

At that price, the ZR-V lines up against rivals including the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail. Honda is pitching it as an urban-focused vehicle rather than a rugged off-roader.

Driving the ZR-V is a 2.0-litre strong-hybrid setup. It pairs a four-cylinder, direct-injection petrol engine running on the Atkinson cycle with two permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors. Together they produce 184hp and 315 Nm, sent to the front wheels through an e-CVT transmission.

Honda quotes a 0-100kph time of 7.9 seconds and an electronically capped top speed of 171kph. The company rates fuel efficiency at 22.8kpl.

Crossover styling

Rather than a tall, upright body, the ZR-V takes a crossover shape with flat surfaces. The nose carries a broad grille and wide LED headlamps set into the fascia. A sloping roofline and long wheelbase give it a lower stance closer to a raised hatchback, while light character lines add shape without clutter.

At the back, wraparound LED tail lamps sit above a raked rear window and a plain tailgate. A roof spoiler lends a sporty touch while keeping the look uncluttered.

Inside, the cabin keeps things simple, with controls grouped for easy reach from the driver's seat. The infotainment screen stands alone at the top of the dashboard, separated from the switchgear below. Honda has retained physical buttons and rotary dials for tasks such as climate adjustment.

Equipment list

The ZR-V comes loaded. Its feature set includes a 9-inch touchscreen, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. Buyers also get wireless phone charging, an electric tailgate, acoustic front and rear windshields, front and rear ambient lighting, and wipers with built-in washers.

On safety, the SUV is fitted with eight airbags and a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
