A remarkable act of dedication by a Delhi Police woman officer has brought happiness back to 119 families. Head Constable Chanchal, posted at Jaitpur Police Station in southeast Delhi, has traced and reunited 119 missing children with their families over a 12-month period.

Her achievement has earned appreciation from senior police officials and made her eligible for an out-of-turn promotion.

According to police officials, Chanchal traced the children between November 2025 and October 2026. Among the 119 children, 41 were below the age of 14, including one child who was approximately three years old. The remaining 78 children were between 14 and 18 years of age.

A Mission Driven by Compassion

Chanchal's commitment to finding missing children was inspired by the suffering of parents who visited the police station searching for their missing sons and daughters.

Speaking about her motivation, she explained that seeing the pain and helplessness of these families deeply affected her. As a mother of an eight-year-old daughter, she could understand the emotional distress experienced by parents separated from their children.

That personal connection motivated her to take responsibility for tracing missing children and helping reunite them with their families.

Investigations Across Multiple States

The mission extended beyond Delhi, involving investigations and coordination across approximately seven to eight states.

Her efforts involved intelligence gathering, technical assistance, persistent follow-ups and coordination with child care institutions, NGOs and Child Welfare Committees.

Children were traced in different parts of the country, including Bihar and Jharkhand.

Chanchal also credited her Station House Officer, senior police officials and the Deputy Commissioner of Police for their guidance and technical support throughout the operation.

In addition to tracing 119 missing children, she also helped locate 16 other missing adults during the same period.

Eligible for Out-of-Turn Promotion

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Utkarsh, the achievement makes Chanchal eligible for an out-of-turn promotion under Delhi Police Standing Order 2024.

Under the stated criteria, police personnel who trace at least 80 missing children within a year, including at least 40 children below the age of 14, qualify for consideration for such a promotion.

Chanchal successfully crossed both thresholds, demonstrating exceptional dedication to child protection and policing.

A Lesson in Humanity and Public Service

Behind every missing child is a family waiting, hoping and praying for a reunion. For 119 families, Chanchal's efforts helped turn that painful wait into a moment of happiness.

Her achievement is a reminder that policing is not only about maintaining law and order. It is also about compassion, responsibility and protecting vulnerable people.

As the country celebrates festivals that bring families together, the return of 119 children to their homes represents a special kind of happiness.

Chanchal deserves recognition for her dedication. More importantly, her work highlights the need for stronger child-tracing systems, better inter-state police coordination and greater support for officers working to protect missing children.

Sometimes, the greatest achievement of a police officer is not an award or a promotion. It is bringing a child safely back home.
