The proposed Kharagpur-Amaravati greenfield highway will cover 1,107 km, with about 457 km passing through Andhra Pradesh.

New Greenfield Highway Project to Connect Tribal Andhra With Amaravati

AMARAVATI / VISAKHAPATNAM — A proposed greenfield highway connecting Kharagpur in West Bengal with Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh is expected to improve road connectivity across several regions, including the tribal-dominated Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

The proposed corridor will cover approximately 1,107 kilometres in total. Around 457 kilometres of the project route is expected to pass through Andhra Pradesh, including nearly 200 kilometres in Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

The project is expected to strengthen long-distance connectivity between eastern India and Andhra Pradesh while improving access for communities located away from existing major transport corridors.

For the Alluri Sitarama Raju region, improved highway infrastructure could potentially support movement of agricultural products, tourism, logistics and essential services.

The highway is also significant from a regional development perspective because better road access can reduce travel times and improve connections between smaller communities and larger economic centres.

The proposed project forms part of wider efforts to expand national highway infrastructure and strengthen road links with Andhra Pradesh's capital-region infrastructure around Amaravati.

Detailed construction schedules, land acquisition requirements and package-wise implementation will determine how quickly the proposed corridor becomes operational.
