Andhra Pradesh Plans ₹1 Lakh Crore Push for Farm-Waste Energy

AMARAVATI — Andhra Pradesh is positioning agricultural waste and organic material as potential sources of large-scale clean energy under a proposed investment programme involving compressed biogas plants.

Reliance Industries has announced plans involving an investment of about ₹1 lakh crore in Andhra Pradesh for a network of compressed biogas facilities. The proposal was discussed during an event in Madanapalle on October 2.

Compressed biogas can be produced from agricultural residues, animal waste and other organic material. The fuel can potentially be used as an alternative to conventional natural gas in several applications.

The proposed investment is also being linked to employment generation and the development of rural supply chains. According to the announcement reported by Financial Express, the initiative could create more than three lakh jobs over time.

The state also launched the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and the Indian School of Agriculture during the same programme.

The horticulture initiative is aimed at strengthening agricultural production in the Rayalaseema region through technology, training and modern farming practices.

The Indian School of Agriculture is expected to focus on skills and technology including artificial intelligence, drones and digital agricultural tools.

If implemented as planned, the projects could create new opportunities for farmers, rural entrepreneurs, transport operators and agricultural-processing businesses.
