Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh

The Telugu Desam Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has recorded a strong performance in Andhra Pradesh's Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections, according to results reported on November 8, 2026.

The results indicate a significant advantage for the ruling coalition, comprising the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP), over the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

The local body elections are politically significant because they provide an indication of political support at the grassroots level across rural Andhra Pradesh.

NDA records a substantial lead

According to results reported by The News Minute, the NDA parties had won 273 of the 659 ZPTC seats as of 9 pm on November 7.

The YSRCP had won 20 seats at that stage.

In the MPTC category, the NDA had secured 5,597 of the 9,818 seats, compared with 1,050 seats for the YSRCP. Congress had secured two MPTC seats.

The reported figures reflect the position at the specified reporting time and should not be treated as a final consolidated result without checking subsequent official declarations.

Unopposed victories and election controversies

The election process also attracted attention because several seats were declared uncontested before polling.

According to the reported figures, 77 ZPTC seats and 2,051 MPTC seats were declared unanimously won on October 27, mainly by ruling coalition candidates.

The opposition raised allegations that some of its candidates had faced intimidation and obstruction during the nomination process.

These allegations are politically significant and require examination through official election records and independent verification.

Polling conducted across multiple districts

Polling for most of the constituencies took place on November 5.

Voting in the remaining five ZPTCs and 60 MPTCs was conducted on November 6 following disruption associated with Cyclone Murasu.

Repolling was also conducted at seven polling stations across Anantapur, Kurnool, Markapuram, Palnadu and Srikakulam districts after reports of electoral irregularities.

Vote counting began on November 7.

Political implications for Andhra Pradesh

The results could strengthen the ruling coalition's position in rural local governance.

Local body elections are important because elected representatives influence development priorities, rural infrastructure, drinking water projects, sanitation, roads and other public services.

For opposition parties, the results present an opportunity to reassess their organisational structures, local leadership and campaign strategies.

However, local election outcomes should not automatically be interpreted as a prediction of future Assembly or parliamentary election results.

What comes next?

Attention will now turn towards the final constituency-wise results, the formation of local governing bodies and the political response from the participating parties.

The performance of the ruling alliance and opposition will also be examined in the context of rural development and local administration.
