Sydney Protesters Demand Australia Sanction Israel

A pro-Palestine protest in Sydney called on Australia to impose sanctions on Israel and criticised government inaction over the killing of aid worker Zomi Frankcom.

Pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered in Sydney to demand that the Australian government take stronger action against Israel, including the imposition of sanctions. Protesters said the current response from Canberra had fallen short and pressed for further measures.

A central grievance at the demonstration was the killing of Zomi Frankcom, an Australian humanitarian aid worker killed by Israel. Activists at the protest called out what they described as the government's inaction over her death and framed part of their demonstration as a demand for justice on her behalf.

Those who turned out linked the two demands directly. For the protesters, sanctions were not an abstract policy request but a response tied to the death of an Australian citizen working in a humanitarian role. They argued that the government's handling of the case did not match the seriousness of what had happened.

The protest added to pressure on the Australian government to move beyond statements and adopt concrete steps against Israel. Demonstrators used the gathering to keep Frankcom's killing in public view and to insist that officials respond with policy rather than words.

The demands voiced in Sydney centred on two points: that Australia increase the pressure it places on Israel, and that it implement sanctions. Both were presented by activists as overdue, and both were tied to their broader criticism of how the government had responded to the loss of an Australian aid worker in the field.

The demonstration reflected continued public mobilisation in Australia over the Israel-Palestine conflict, with participants directing their appeals squarely at their own government and its willingness to act.
