Sushila Karki, Nepal’s first female Chief Justice, is a well-known figure who previously led the Supreme Court from 2016 to 2017. Her non-political background has drawn comparisons to Bangladesh’s interim government model led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The protests have severely impacted Kathmandu, with demonstrators attacking high-profile homes and hotels, including a major fire at the Hilton Hotel. The Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu site, was also targeted, prompting heightened security and a temporary closure to devotees. The situation remains tense as Nepal seeks stability under new leadership amid ongoing unrest.
