Middle East conflict: Trump Warns Iran’s New Supreme Leader May Not Last Without U.S. Approva

Amid the escalating Middle East conflict, Donald Trump has issued a strong warning regarding Iran’s reported new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei. Trump said that the new leader “will not last long” without his approval, adding that Iran must seek U.S. consent regarding its leadership. He also warned that Mojtaba could face the same fate as his father if Tehran ignores Washington’s position. Iran quickly rejected the remarks. The country’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that no country, including the United States, has the right to interfere in selecting Iran’s Supreme Leader. He emphasized that choosing the leader is the sole right of the Iranian people and must be decided by the Assembly of Experts. Meanwhile, tensions in the region continue to rise. Oil prices in the United States have surged above $110 per barrel due to the war, though Trump said the increase would be temporary once the nuclear threat from Iran is eliminated. Iran has also continued missile strikes on Israel, including attacks near Palestinian territories. In response, the Israel Defense Forces claimed a major strike on Iran’s Air Force headquarters in Tehran, part of wider attacks on over 140 Iranian targets as the conflict intensifies.
