    Maharashtra Approves ₹75,000 Crore Infrastructure Package

    The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a massive ₹75,000 crore infrastructure package that will transform urban mobility and connectivity across Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. This ambitious plan includes metro expansions, suburban rail upgrades, new road networks, and modern civic infrastructure.

    Key Highlights of the Package

    1. Mumbai Metro Line-11 (Wadala to Gateway of India)

    • Length:51 km (16.83 km underground, 667 meters at grade).
    • Stations: 14 (13 underground, 1 at grade) including Anik Depot, Wadala, Byculla, CSMT, Bhendi Bazaar, and Gateway of India.
    • Train Specs: 6-car rakes, speeds up to 80 km/h, peak-hour headway of 2.5 minutes.
    • Ridership:8 lakh daily by 2031, growing to 10 lakh by 2055.
    • Land Use: 104 acres, mostly government-owned, with a 39-acre car shed at Anik–Pratiksha Nagar.
    • Funding: Supported by JICA, with Centre equity of ₹3,137.72 crore and subordinate debt of ₹916.74 crore.
    • Revenue: Commercial development at Wadala to generate non-fare income.

    2. Mumbai Suburban Rail Upgrades

    • New AC Local Trains: 238 fully air-conditioned trains under MUTP-3 & 3A, costing ₹4,826 crore (shared equally by state and Railway Board).
    • Corridor Expansions (MUTP-3B):65 km of new lines, including Badlapur–Karjat, Asangaon–Kasara, Panvel–Vasai, at ₹14,907.47 crore (50% state funding).

    3. Pune–Lonavala Rail Expansion

    • Cost: ₹5,100 crore.
    • Scope: Third and fourth tracks over 63.87 km, covering 17 stations to reduce congestion.
    • Execution: Managed by MRVC with PMRDA.
    • Additional: Pune Metro expansion also approved.

    4. Other Major Projects

    • Thane: Circular Metro project.
    • Thane–Navi Mumbai: Elevated road connecting to Navi Mumbai International Airport (PPP with CIDCO).
    • Pune: Metro corridor additions including Balajinagar and Bibwewadi on the Swargate–Katraj line.
    • Nagpur: Metro Phase-2, Outer Ring Road, and International Business & Finance Centre (IBFC) under the “New Nagpur” project.
    • Judicial Infrastructure: A new Bombay High Court complex in Bandra (East), budgeted at ₹3,750 crore.
