Kia India teases the Sorento Hybrid, its first hybrid SUV, and opens pre-bookings. The three-row model will rival the Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.

Kia India has released a teaser for the all-new Sorento Hybrid, its first hybrid SUV planned for the local market, and has started taking official pre-bookings for the three-row model. The teaser marks the first look at the India-specification vehicle ahead of its launch.

Once on sale, the Sorento will crown Kia India's internal-combustion SUV line-up. The company positions it against the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Jeep Meridian.

The teaser shows a tall, squared-off body. Up front, the SUV carries vertically arranged LED headlamps alongside T-shaped LED daytime running lights. Buyers are expected to have a choice between six-seat and seven-seat layouts.

Kia has not yet shown the India-spec cabin, but the Sorento is tipped to arrive well equipped. Anticipated features include twin 12.3-inch screens serving the driver's instruments and the infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, multi-zone climate control and a 360-degree camera.

Powering the India-bound model is expected to be a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine working with a self-charging hybrid setup. That combination is likely to be linked to a six-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.

Kia has not confirmed a launch date or pricing. Further details are expected as the debut nears
