India-Made Suzuki Jimny, Fronx, eVitara Pass 100,000 Japan Exports

Maruti Suzuki has shipped more than 100,000 Jimny 5-door, Fronx and eVitara units from India to Japan, making the country its No. 2 export market.

Maruti Suzuki has shipped more than 100,000 India-built vehicles to Japan across three models, the carmaker said, marking a fresh export high for its factories. The combined tally covers the Jimny 5-door, the Fronx and the electric eVitara, all sent to Suzuki's home market.

The volume has lifted Japan to Maruti Suzuki's second-biggest export destination by units in FY2025-26, a ranking it held again during the April to August stretch of FY2026-27. On the strength of the same three cars, Suzuki finished FY2025-26 as the top vehicle importer in Japan, ahead of every other foreign brand. Almost every unit Suzuki brought into Japan over that year rolled off Maruti Suzuki's Indian lines.

The Fronx opened the shipping route in August 2024, becoming the first of the trio to reach Japanese showrooms. The Jimny 5-door followed in December 2024. Maruti Suzuki widened the line-up in September 2025 by adding the eVitara, the first battery-electric car it has sent abroad.

Two of the three cars are built nowhere else. The Jimny 5-door and the eVitara are produced only in India, a point the company used to underline how central its domestic plants have become to Suzuki's worldwide output. India has long supplied Suzuki's local buyers, but the group is now leaning on the country to build cars aimed at overseas customers too.

Takeuchi calls it an endorsement

Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and chief executive of Maruti Suzuki, said passing the 100,000 mark showed that Japanese buyers had embraced cars stamped Made in India. "The milestone of over 1 lakh exports of Jimny 5-door, FRONX, and eVITARA to Japan is a powerful endorsement of India's manufacturing excellence," he said.

Takeuchi also pointed to how far the India-Japan link has shifted. Suzuki first set up in India decades ago to serve local drivers. Now, more than 40 years on, its Indian arm is turning out vehicles that are sold to customers back in Suzuki's own country. The reversal is striking given that Japan has one of the world's most advanced car-making industries at home.

Wider export haul stays strong

Beyond Japan, Maruti Suzuki remains one of India's leading exporters of finished cars. In July 2026, several of its models placed among the nation's most-shipped vehicles, including the Jimny, Fronx, Dzire, Swift, Ertiga, Baleno, eVitara and Celerio.

The Jimny was the second most-exported car that month at 5,784 units, with the Fronx third at 4,570 units. The eVitara added 2,524 units, a figure the company cited as evidence that electric cars are taking a larger share of its outbound shipments.
