    'He had to stay back': War in Ukraine keeps father from laying Iryna Zarutska to rest; family reels with grief

    Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was fatally stabbed on a Charlotte train. Her father, bound by Ukraine's wartime regulations, couldn't attend her U.S. funeral. Zarutska had escaped Ukraine in 2022, seeking refuge with her family, but her life was tragically cut short by a man with a long criminal history.
