    Explained: Four Years On, Why Russia-Ukraine War Shows No Sign Of Ending

    Four years ago, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, expecting a swift victory. It did not get one. Instead, the conflict hardened into brutal trench warfare, with nearly two million soldiers on both sides reported dead, wounded, or missing. Russia now controls roughly 20 per cent of Ukrainian territory, but its advance has been slow. NATO has compared Moscow's progress to the pace of a garden snail, barely 70 metres a day, as drones reshape every inch of the battlefield.
