Celebrations In Iran's Galleh Dar After Ayatollah Khamenei’s Death

People in Iran celebrated in the streets early Sunday after the announcement of the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Footage posted online and shared with The Associated Press showed people in the city of Galleh Dar in Fars province, cheering in a square. The United States and Israel targeted Iran in coordinated attacks over the weekend that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and dozens of other senior figures and kicked off a furious Iranian response that threatens a wider regional war. More than 200 people have been killed since the start of the strikes that killed Khamenei and other senior leaders, Iranian leaders said. Iran vowed revenge, firing missiles at Israel and Gulf Arab states in a counteroffensive that the U.S. military said resulted in the deaths of three service members — the first known American casualties from the conflict.
