Burkina Faso teachers Edmond Bama and Didier Zongo received F3 villas and 5 million CFA francs each after winning the 2026 School Excellence Awards.

Burkina Faso Teachers Receive New Villas for Excellence in Education

The BOA-Burkina Faso Foundation has honoured two award-winning teachers, Edmond Bama and Didier Zongo, with newly handed-over homes in recognition of their contributions to education.

Two teachers in Burkina Faso have received the keys to new homes after being recognised for their achievements and commitment to education during the country’s 2026 School Excellence Awards.

On October 21, 2026, Edmond Bama and Didier Zongo officially received the keys to two F3 villas at a ceremony held in Kouba. The homes were provided through the Foundation of Bank of Africa-Burkina Faso (BOA-BF), fulfilling a commitment made during the National School Excellence Day held on September 4.

According to Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Education, each villa is valued at 12 million West African CFA francs. The two teachers also received cheques worth 5 million CFA francs each, provided as part of the recognition programme.

Recognising outstanding teachers

Bama and Zongo were named the two “super teachers” of the 2026 School Excellence Awards.

Edmond Bama is a primary-school teacher serving at Mogueya A Public Primary School in the Nando region. Didier Zongo teaches at Bassi Provincial High School in Ziniaré and was recognised for his work in secondary education.

The awards highlight the role teachers play in improving learning outcomes and supporting students, including in challenging educational environments.

The two educators had previously been honoured at the National School Excellence Day ceremony in September, where their achievements were recognised alongside those of students, teachers and other education professionals.

A partnership supporting education

The villa handover brought together representatives of Burkina Faso’s education authorities, the BOA Foundation and CGE-Immobilier, which was involved in the housing arrangement.

Lassiné Diawara, president of the BOA-Burkina Faso Foundation, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting education, recognising professional merit and helping develop future generations.

The foundation’s contribution reflects cooperation between public education authorities and private-sector partners to reward achievement in the country’s education system.

What the award package includes

According to the Ministry of Education, each recipient received:

  • An F3 villa built on a plot of approximately 200 square metres.

  • A cheque worth 5 million CFA francs.

  • Recognition for outstanding professional service in education.

The housing award is intended to provide practical support to the teachers while publicly acknowledging their contributions to schools and students.

Recognition to expand in 2027

The ceremony also included an announcement that the recognition programme is expected to expand in 2027, with a villa planned for an outstanding educational supervisor.

The proposed expansion would extend recognition beyond classroom teachers to professionals who support teaching quality, curriculum delivery and educational performance.

The programme forms part of Burkina Faso’s broader effort to highlight achievement across the education system and encourage commitment to teaching and learning.

Supporting the future of education

Teachers play a central role in building skills, improving literacy and preparing young people for future opportunities. Recognition programmes can help highlight their work, although lasting improvements in education also depend on adequate resources, training, infrastructure and support for schools.

The handover to Bama and Zongo marks the completion of a specific commitment made during the 2026 awards and demonstrates how partnerships can provide tangible rewards for educators.
