A demonstration against alleged electoral irregularities in India took place in London on October 17, with YouTuber Dhruv Rathee participating in the protest and a separate group of supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi staging a counter-demonstration, according to media reports.

The protest focused on concerns about the Election Commission of India and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters raised questions about the removal of names from voter lists and demanded greater accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protesters used the slogan “Stop Vote Chori” to draw attention to their concerns. The allegations of electoral irregularities have been raised by political opponents and activists, but the demonstration itself does not establish that electoral fraud occurred.

Modi supporters gathered separately and expressed their support for the Prime Minister and his government. The competing groups exchanged slogans, and police intervened to maintain separation and prevent the situation from escalating.

The protest followed a wider political debate in India over the voter-list revision process and demands for greater transparency. The Election Commission’s position and the circumstances surrounding any disputed voter entries need to be examined alongside the claims made by political groups.

The London demonstration illustrates how domestic political disputes can become subjects of public discussion among Indian communities abroad. The competing groups presented different views on the government, election administration and the way concerns about democracy should be raised.
